St. John’s Church, Osgoode, was the scene of a pretty and interesting wedding ceremony on Saturday morning, when Miss Phyllis McEvoy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McEvoy, was united in marriage to Mr. Harold Cleland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cleland. Rev. Father W. F. Tierney performed the ceremony in the church, which was adorned with phlox, asters and other garden flowers.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attended by Miss Freda Cleland, sister of the bridegroom, as bridesmaid. Mr. Thomas Shields was best man and the ushers were Mr. Lawrence Millar, of Ottawa, and Mr. Howard Blanchfield, of Osgoode.
Miss Irene Cleland, sister of the bridegroom, played the Wedding March from Lohengrin. During the ceremony Mrs. James Dewan presided at the organ, while Miss Maude Monaghan sang Ave Maria. During the signing of the register an enjoyable solo, “Just for Today.” was sung by Mr. Clinton McEvoy.
The bride was charming in a gown of white satin made on long, graceful lines. The bodice had
quilted cuffs and lapels and a Queen Anne collar. Her turban was of white crepe and she wore matching slippers, and carried an arm bouquet of Johanna Hill roses and baby's breath.
The bridesmaid, Miss Freda Cleland, was gowned in becoming pale pink silk net, with dainty French ruching from the knee. It was fashioned over pink taffeta and had a blue and pink sash. Her hat was of blue and she carried an arm bouquet of pink sweet peas and gladioli.
Mrs. McEvoy, mother of the bride, chose a grey suede crepe dress, with mauve trimmings and mauve accessories. She wore a corsage bouquet of chrysanthemums and roses.
Mrs. Cleland, mother of the bridegroom, was in a smart gown of green and mauve printed chiffon, with black accessories. Her corsage bouquet was of chrysanthemums and lily-of-the-valley.
Following the ceremony a dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, when the guests included immediate relatives and Father Tierney. The rooms were adorned with Summer blooms and streamers.
Later Mr. and Mrs. Cleland left on a motor trip to Detroit The bride travelled in a royal blue English wool suit blue suede shoes, grey hat and fur Upon their return they will reside in Osgoode.
